The purpose of the ART study is to compare two different methods of managing ankle fractures after surgery.
Who can be involved?
- If you are aged 16 and over and have had surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital to repair an ankle fracture you could be eligible to take part.
What happens to people taking part in this research?
When patients attend their routine follow up appointment two weeks after their ankle surgery they are randomly allocated to either continue wearing a plaster cast for 4 weeks or are given a removable support boot for 4 weeks. Both groups are provided with home exercises. Patients are asked to complete 4 questionnaires over a 12 week period so the success of each management strategy can be compared and the study team can find out which one has more success.
