The DPIM study involves people aged 18 and above with a clinical diagnosis of mental illness, alcohol dependence syndrome, schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder. The purpose of the study is to try to find out the genetic and other causes of mental illness. We intend to study the serum in blood for immune and any other causes of mental illness and to study the DNA in blood for genetic causes of mental illness.
Who can be involved?
- A person who has a diagnosis of mental illness, schizophrenia or bippolar disorder
What happens to people taking part in this research?
The study involves a DNA sample taken via a blood test and a questionnaire.
