The TACIT Trial (Closed to recruitment)

The TACIT study aims to find out if Tai Chi is effective in reducing the number of falls experienced by people with dementia. It is thought that improving a person's balance may help to reduce the likelihood of them falling.

Who can be involved? 

  • A person aged 65 and above
  • A person who has been diagnosed with dementia and has a carer or a friend who can also take part

What happens to people taking part in this research?

This study is a randomised controlled trial which means some patients will receive the Tai Chi intervention and some will care as normal. All participants will receive a weekly telephone call from a researcher and will need to keep a 'falls' diary.

There are also two face to face visits with a researcher. One at the beginning and one at the end of the study. Each visit will collect data from the person with dementia and their friend or carer.
