Solent shortlisted in Patient Engagement Awards

Solent NHS Trust has been shortlisted for three awards at the upcoming Patient Experience in Quality Improvement Awards, hosted by NHS Elect in partnership with NHS England and NHS Improvement. They have been announced as finalists in three categories: the Patient Experience and Communications Award, the Co-created Service Award, and the Excellent Teamwork Award.

A group of patient and carer representatives have been shortlisted in the Patient Experience and Communications Award category for their co-design of a training package. The training has been co-designed to help patients and families to get involved in improvement work, and can be delivered face to face or online. The team created a series of materials to support engagement in QI, including posters, films and case studies.

The Vocational Rehabilitation Service has been shortlisted for the Co-created Service Awards for their work with members of the community living with a neurological condition or neurological injury, who are working towards getting back in to employment. The team has been working with people living with acquired brain injury in order to better understand what they want from the service, and what their thoughts were on the existing therapies offered by the Trust. Clients and staff work together through a Forum to plan improvements for the service including: a co-designed app to measure outcomes, a group rehabilitation programme, and a series of events to sell items made by clients.

Finally, our Brooker team (an older person’s mental health ward) are finalists in the Excellent Teamwork award. The team was shortlisted for the award for their project to improve nutrition and eating with the use of specific plates, which was a collaboration between patients, families, residents and all staff, including the catering teams. This was led by Mary whose late husband died of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Solent Academy of Research and Improvement provides support and training to teams working in partnership with patients, families and communities. We are delighted to have supported all of these projects and to have been able to nominate such outstanding work.

The NHS Elect 2019/20 award winners will be announced on Thursday 5th December.
