FADES (Closed to Recruitment)
This study will look at early feeding in babies and children with Down’s syndrome and see how feeding and early infections may be related to the increased risk children with Down’s syndrome have of developing thyroid, coeliac disease (which causes gut problems) and diabetes.
This study has now closed to recruitment.
Findings so far:
At the time of this publication, 80 infants were enrolled (41 were male and 39 were female), the average age of recruitment was 17 weeks. It was found that a long-term cohort of children with Down's syndrome in an important resource for understanding the causes of autoimmune diseases including Type 1 diabetes. The analysis of the samples and questionnaires to properly define the presence of markers of autoimmunity and associations with feeding and health is still ongoing.
