Emma McLoughlin

Senior Research Physiotherapist

My role

I am a research physiotherapist

My background

I am a musculoskeletal physiotherapist by trade and continue to work clinically in outpatients. I made the move to research four years ago and find the roles complement each other.

My responsibilities

As a research physiotherapist I am passionate about involving our patients in innovative research. A typical day may involve identifying suitable studies that we can open within Solent NHS Trust, recruiting participants, delivering interventions and liaising with other organisations looking at joined up working across community and acute trusts.

Why I love my job

We are an eclectic bunch here at the Academy of Research and Improvement, but we balance each other rather well. I am grateful to work within such a supportive team. I tend to be the one who encourages everyone to move more and beware the chair…

More about me

Outside of work I can be found on the sea, up a mountain or riding a bike.

Current projects

My main interest lies in musculoskeletal studies and recently I have worked on various projects including: physiotherapy treatment following osteoporotic vertebral fractures; targeted treatment following total knee replacement and am currently setting up a study comparing rehabilitation with surgical reconstruction of non-acute ligament injuries.
